What does it take to Be A "MainStream" Female Mc?

Whats poppin fokes! It's Monday afternoon and you know I'm well into my day. I'd like to take some time to pose a question that I think will turn out to have some interesting responses. This one is concerning Female Mc's. We are everywhere these days. If you do your research you will find that there are hundreds if not thousands of women who rap, but may not get the "credit" they necessarily are deserving of. I am myself an underground lady spitter and feel that there are some sterotypes of women rappers that block our diversity in the rapping community. The one statement I seem to get the most is that a lady has to have "sex appeal" in order to "make it" into the mainstream sence. I understand that the rappers stage is a male dominated industry and it's also cut throat so to speak. This genre of music has also become very, very, competitive. Doesn't sexiness come in different forms? What one person might consider to be sexy another person may not. Or is it that the general public has been brain washed into believing that "This is the way it's suppose to be done"? Here is the question I want you all to take a stab at: "What qualities do you think a female Mc needs to posses in order to be a mainstream artist these days?" I want to see what you all think about it. Ready! Set! Go! - TrendSetterTina

  1. Truth be told, I hate to say it, but in order for a female rapper to be considered in this One sided game she will have to look the part. Not to say that she has to be a dime piece, but she has to Bring it...

There are a lot of hot female artist out there, but they don't fit the excepted perspective for what the industry wants so they will have a hard time breaking into it. It's going to take some time but we have to realize what type of industry we are surrounded by. They go by appearance. What will sell, and what sells is sex, money, and looks. Not to say it is right or wrong, but that's the reality. Just like Stupid ass music is what is selling right now. But I believe that it will change will there will be an open for Artist, Great Artist.. Underground Artist with a message that is bigger then this Materialistic industry.

  2. I say continue to do you. don't change... be true to who you are and what you have to bring to the table. If it happens for you then that is great, but if it don't then maybe it wasn't meant for you to be in that life.

  3. What qualities? I believe she need to understand how she can be marketed outside of her lyrical, singing and producing skills. This is what most of this Industry is looking for when taking the risk to give her a chance. They need to be able to see that she has a unique marketable ability to grow into other areas. Its the same with the average person, looking to move up the ladder. The lady must have more to offer than just music and her perspective. If she does then she will have a chance greater than the next lady. And yeah she gotta look aesthetically appealing to make it. I don't believe she needs to be a dime that's what models in them videos are for.

In the end most people getting in the industry will have good talent the unique will outshine the rest and they make it for whatever reasons are unique to that situation.

All that said, for the most part the best quality I would say lies within her ability to connect and form relationships with the right people at the right time.
